A new beginning.. UMASS
So, I haven’t updated tumblr since the beginning of college. This is that update.
October 16th 2011- GNP DAY
The college adventure, has been so different than I originally thought. I’ve made so many new friends, had so many great experiences, and its only been one month! I attribute much of my early success to the fact that I’m a member of the UMMB. The UMass Marching Band. Since the beginning of 8th grade, I’ve always wanted to be a part of this amazing organization. Now that day has come. From the first day of band camp, where I met my amazing section (the one and only clarinets) we’ve accomplished so much all in the face of hurricanes, awkward weather patterns and a changing at the helm of the UMass Band. To put it simply, its different. But in a lighter sense it the same. We’re still the greatest band in the land, and we’ve all put a lot of effort into making this band shine. I give a lot of credit to Mr. Hannum and Dr. Anderson who have worked tirelessly to bring together a band of over 360 students! WE SOUND AMAZING! See clip from Allentown Weekend here! We just finished band day last weekend and are currently in a free weekend. Next weekend the band will travel to Gillette Stadium to particpate in the Colonial Clash vs the University of New Hampshire.
If you didn’t know, today, Oct. 16th is George N. Parks day. I’d like to talk about that just a little bit now. GNP made the biggest impact on my life, and I only knew him for 5 years of my life. His energy, enthusiasm and dedication made me realize how amazing band was and how proud I should be to be in such a wonderful organization. This program has given me so much in terms of leadership skills, connections, and the opportunity to perfrom for some of the largest crowds in America. George is the reason I’m here. and I’ll never be able to thank him for all of the skills he’s given me.
Also, as in the tile of this epic post, it is a new beginning. I’ve worked hard to get where I am today and I’m ever so greatful I worked myself to this level. College is the greatest experience ever. So many people, cultures, levels of society that I never knew existed, and heck, lets be real here, its a time to explore and get excited about the world at large. Simply put, the things I’ve done here, I never would have believe I could do back in high school. Again, its only the first month, SERIOUSLY? Go me! The classes I’m taking are wonderful the students in those classes are amazing. One of the girls in my Anthropology class, I consider to be my best friend here at UMass, and we’re not even dating (or considering it so don’t get too excited.) I mean, I miss my old friends, and I barely see kids from Salem here, but in fact.. it may be for the best. I’ve needed to expand my borders, and thats exactly what I’m doing.
major change? I’ve been very seriously considering changing my major. from poli sci to music ed. but lets be real here.. is this a wise choice? Should i change my major of what I’ve been expected to do for years, to a music ed major and possibly succeed (pending I get accepted to the program)? its all new territory. I’ve been contimplating, and I’ve not yet reached a decision. I must think about it while longer, but please, if you have any words of advice, let me know!
Enjoy the foilage on the ground. its wonderful this time of year. Happy GNP Day!
